To create a shortcut that launches OneNote from the Windows desktop, follow these steps:

    Right click on Windows desktop, hover over command Create, and then click Label.

    Click the button Overview to locate the OneNote.exe file.

    By default, the Onenote.exe file from the Office OneNote 2007 program is located in the folder:

    C: \ Program Files \ Microsoft Office \ Office12

    Select the OneNote.exe file, and then click OK.

Join a shared session. Here server- IP address or domain name of the computer on which the shared session is taking place. For parameter password use a password provided by the person conducting the session. File name is the file name of the OneNote section whose page is shared.

Launches OneNote and opens the page specified in the parameter page... To get a hyperlink to any page in your OneNote notebook, right-click the tab for that page, and then select Copy hyperlink to this page.

My introduction to OneNote

My acquaintance with OneNote began when I got tired of storing recipes in hard copies - in the form of pieces of paper, notebooks, printouts and other tinsel. I didn’t want to build my own bicycle, and a quick search in electronic culinary notebooks showed zero and a hell of a tenth of the results, so the task was expanded to "what is generally there for convenient electronic records?" At that time (2009) the choice turned out to be small - either Evernote (just then appeared), or OneNote from Microsoft. Evernote disappeared right away. for his work, he required constant Internet access (it seems that he still requires it, and even in the premium version with off-line storage of notes), which categorically did not suit me. As a result, an unknown beast of OneNote remained, which was installed long ago along with other office applications, but had never been launched until that moment.
The first acquaintance plunged into a slight shock - is it really Microsoft? The product clearly fell out of the general paradigm of the Office, both in design and in its approach to the logic of work (for example, how do you like the absence of a Save button? Even if you kill the process through the Task Manager, OneNote did not lose anything and calmly restored its work from the interrupted place , unlike the same Word). Well, in terms of capabilities, the product easily blocked all my then wishes - off-line storage and work, web-clipper, local search (including search by text in pictures and photos!), Categories, tags like anywhere, and much more ...
As a result, after a while I really got hooked on this product, and, in addition to the cookbook, I got other notebooks on various topics - for work, hobbies, education, apartment renovation,….

Dicklimer for Evernote

  • Everything below about Evernote is my opinion, perhaps not always correct, and based on several attempts to make friends with him (most recently a couple of years ago). It may be that something has changed during this time, so if I am mistaken, correct it.
  • I know about the existence of other web-notes (such as Springpad, for example), but historically it so happened that I became closely acquainted only with Evernote, so I only mention it below.

The origins of both Evernote and OneNote have clearly left their mark on these products. Evernote was born in the era of the boom of web services and the beginning of the fashion for abandoning fat clients (on desktops, in particular) and this resulted in a one-sided development of the solution with a bias towards mobility. Cool clients on mobile platforms, a good web interface, integration with browsers - and at the same time absolutely no client on a PC, plus the inability to work without constant Internet access due to the peculiarities of the service monetization (traffic limit is a strong incentive for switching to a paid subscription , which will turn into nothing when storing notebooks offline).
On the other hand, OneNote is a classic PC program made on the principle of "I carry everything with me" - huge functionality that does not depend on any external resources or services, local storage of all data, plus tight integration with the most popular office suite. Its disadvantages at that time are the continuation of the advantages - the inability to work together, the lack of synchronization between different devices (with the exception of devices based on Windows Mobile, but even then it was clear that the "friend is not a tenant"), again, the risk of data loss in the event unexpected in the form of a dead hard drive ... In principle, all these disadvantages were managed with some crutches - synchronization of notebooks via Dropbox, third-party clients for Android and IOS, backups to an external storage. However, with the development of MS Office and the advent of SkyDrive, the crutches fell off and died away, and at the moment OneNote in its capabilities actually equaled Evernote, and in some places surpassed it.

What interesting features does Onenote have, besides being free, working with all kinds of information - texts in different forms (texts, tables, lists, scans, printouts), pictures, audio and video, handwriting input, total search for all stored information, simultaneous the work of several users, ...?

  • First, as mentioned earlier, this is integration (and two-way) with MS Office. For example, in the case of Outlook, you can both send emails to OneNote, and transfer tasks directly from the notebook to the Outlook calendar, and in the case of Word, you can link notes to documents.
  • Secondly, it is possible to send notes to the address [email protected] and they will automatically be added to the notebook. Unfortunately, here Microsoft is a little too clever, tk. Letters are accepted only from the mailing address associated with your Microsoft Live account (i.e. addresses like @ hotmail.com or @ outlook.com). You cannot link mail from another domain, unless you have an account from the time when you could specify any mailbox during registration.
  • Thirdly, integration with various scanners, both "hardware" (Epson, for example) and "software" (Genius Scan), as well as completely exotic, such as "smart" pens.
  • Fourth, all sorts of small amenities, such as the ability to print in OneNote "out of the box". After installing OneNote, a new printer "Send to OneNote" appears in "Devices and Printers", after which any application that can print can send information to a notebook.

What is Microsoft OneNote?

So what is OneNote for office software? And I will tell you this is a very interesting and useful tool. Using keyboard shortcuts

Files at hand

It often happens that it is difficult for us to remember where this or that file was saved, especially if it was a long time ago. OneNote suggests not to bother in this regard, but to immediately insert files into notebook entries. This will be especially true if your to-do list later requires using specific files from the device.

Add office documents or PDFs, videos or music to OneNote. You can simply drag the file into OneNote, after which a shortcut to the document will be automatically created and you will no longer have to search for it. It can be opened later with a double click (audio and video can be played directly in OneNote).

Outlook connection

OneNote itself is a very useful solution, but in conjunction with an email client, Outlook can become even more functional. When you create appointments in your Outlook calendar, you can add notes from your notebook to them using the Meeting Notes button. In this case, notes can be either yours personally or shared by all participants.

In addition, cases and tasks created in Microsoft's email client can also be linked to OneNote. At the same time, it will be possible to mark the task as done directly in the electronic notebook. In OneNote itself, tasks for Outlook are conveniently created through the ribbon menu, the Home tab, the Tags area, and the Outlook Tasks button (this way you can immediately set the due date for the task).

Do not forget about the task

Perhaps the biggest problem with paper to-do lists is that they take up space. Be it a notebook, a sticker, or just a piece of paper. And there is always the possibility of losing your records or not taking them with you when you need them.

There is no such problem with a digital pad. OneNote is available on all possible platforms, so if you are not in the habit of leaving your cell phone at home, then your notes will always be with you. And even if you do not have the corresponding application installed on your mobile device, you can always access your notebook via the Internet (including this can be convenient if you are not using your computer - just log in to office.com under your account and get access to your office documents).

In addition, the presence of the OneNote application on mobile devices allows you to always quickly take notes, including adding new tasks for yourself, at any time - whether you are traveling by transport or are at a business lunch. As a last resort, you can use the audio recording option, which is also in OneNote, if you are not comfortable typing in text for some reason.

OneNote look

OneNote's standard view in a convenient form gives you access to your notebooks and notes in them, without overloading with unnecessary information. However, when working with to-do lists, displaying all of the sections in full might simply be redundant.

Through the ribbon menu in the "View" tab, you can switch the display to "Page view" so that nothing distracts from the information. In this case, the size of the window with the mouse can be made more compact. Or, in principle, you can select the "Pin to Desktop" option. In this case, your notes will be neatly arranged on the right side of the screen on top of other windows.

This view can be very convenient when you are looking for some information on the Internet, for example, preparing for a vacation, or just constantly working on your computer. The to-do list is always at hand. In addition, this view will be relevant if you use the option of linking files of various office applications, for example, OneNote with a text editor Word. You can check if this option is currently enabled by the link icon in the upper right corner.
